Enhance and support the leadership of an international outdoor business as an Independent Trustee

GearForm Ltd owns and oversees the running of Nikwax Ltd and Páramo Ltd. Both companies have achieved an international reputation through the development, manufacturing and marketing of high performance products, whilst caring for the environment and the community. In particular, Nikwax has achieved 4 Queen’s Awards for Industry, the most recent being for Sustainable Development. Together, the companies employ around 200 people worldwide.

GearForm founder, Nick Brown, has been planning his retirement for some years, by building a strong leadership team and the management structures that support them. The last part of this process is to form a robust governance structure which will help to facilitate the transition of the business to an Employee Ownership Trust, which is scheduled to happen in August 2021.

This will be a Fixed-Term position for two years, on a self-employed basis. Meetings will be held on a minimum of a quarterly basis with additional preparation time for meetings also required. There may also be other initial work in setting up the Board and advising on the governance structure which are to be agreed.

The Role

Ensure that the Employee Ownership Trust is operated for the benefit of Group employees by overseeing the generation of strong sustainable profits, working alongside the Board of Directors and Advisory Council where required and by placing a high level of importance on non-financial benefits by:

  • monitoring the performance and profitability of the business, exercising appropriate due diligence thus ensuring that the Board of directors run it in the best interests of the Beneficiaries as a whole
  • having direct involvement in the review and approval of total overall budgeted expenditure for the business each financial year
  • reviewing significant capital spends above budgeted levels as set out in the Constitution and to have direct involvement in the approval of short or long term borrowings in excess of given limitations as outlined
  • having direct involvement in the approval of the appointment or removal of the CEO
  • having direct involvement in the approval of any financial changes to the ownership structure or asset disposal of the business as set out in the Constitution
  • preparing for and attending Trustee meetings as scheduled
  • ensuring that the spirit of the Group values are respected by the Board of Directors as set out in the Principles of the Constitution.

The Person will be

  • experienced in holding a trustee role
  • experienced in commercial coaching/personal development
  • able to understand accounting terminology and figures
  • well informed of issues that affect business sustainability
  • aware of company values and ethics
  • educated to degree level or equivalent in experience.

Join an innovative outdoor business as a Maintenance Assistant

The Nikwax Group operates within the growing international Outdoor industry, providing a range of aftercare products for a variety of clothing, footwear and equipment, as well as unique waterproof systems available through our premium outdoor clothing brand Páramo. The business has successfully managed its way through the recent Covid 19 crisis and has ambitious growth and development plans for the future. We are looking for a Maintenance Assistant to support our very busy Maintenance Department and to contribute towards our ongoing success.

The Role

Assist with all maintenance and repair tasks, to ensure machinery and equipment is fully available for duty, across all supply areas by:

  • assisting and performing routine maintenance on all equipment and machinery as scheduled
  • helping to ensure machinery breakdowns are efficiently and effectively repaired and recorded
  • maintaining a clean and safe workshop, advising the Maintenance Technician of unsafe working environments' or unsafe machinery
  • being trained to become competent with the operation of all Supply equipment
  • reporting on repeating machinery breakdowns to Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Technician
  • maintaining sufficient stock of consumables for machinery and equipment for respective areas.

The Person will be

  • mechanically minded with a logical approach to problems
  • able to drive things through to a solution
  • a self starter with self confidence
  • passionate about the environment and outdoor pursuits.

Due to our rural location own transport will be required.
